About Us
The Graduate Chemical Society at WSU is committed to improving the life of the poor, lowly, downtrodden chemistry graduate students. In order to accomplish this we focus on two aspects of graduate student life: social and academic.
To fill out our social schedule and insure that no one buries themselves in the lab 24/7, the GCS organizes and sponsors activities such as barbecues, social evenings out, and departmental events. GCS also has intramural sports teams in soccer and softball, with dodge ball coming soon.
Academic activities include buying equipment for the department. Such purchases include the photocopier to the right.
Currently GCS is working on creating a graduate student library. This library would give graduate students access to the books and handouts needed for classes and preliminary exam preparation; as well as a quiet area to study alone or in groups away from common distractions (such as professors or undergraduates).
To fund all of this the GCS raises money through goggle and notebook sales each semester. Mostly to undergraduates who require these for their classes. We are also occasionally lucky enough to receive donations.
Marvin the photocopier, purchased by GCS for use in the department, is a huge help in preparing for classes. The copier is networked and can be printed to from any computer in the department. It can also be used to scan documents into PDF's.
Life is good at WSU.
