Assistant Professor in Analytical Chemistry
WSU invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in analytical chemistry at the Assistant Professor Level on our Main Campus in Pullman, WA with an anticipated start date of July 1st, 2013. Required qualifications include: a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, evidence of potential for establishing and maintaining an outstanding academic research program in analytical chemistry, ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in chemistry (including service courses), excellent spoken and written communication skills, ability to obtain security clearance from the Department of Homeland Security. Preference will be given to individuals whose research interests complement existing WSU faculty research in radiochemistry, and individuals who are interested in initiating new research in nuclear forensics, including possible collaboration with scientists at the US national laboratories. This includes the application of traditionally non-nuclear methods to improve separations and analysis of nuclear debris, and identification and/or utilization of isotopic, chemical, and physical signatures. Example areas of possible research includes (not exclusive):
- Advances in analytical separations – transformational areas of separations such as ion mobility, electrophoresis, or electrochemistry; development of microfabricated chemical instrumentation, fluidic networks, micro- and/or nano-fluidics
- Morphological characterization of materials – atomic force microscopy for nano-scale spatial analysis of radioactive materials and environmental media
- Advances in mass spectrometry – research in transformational areas of mass spectrometry, including development of microscale ion trap mass spectrometry, extension of mass spectrometry mass working ranges, aerosol based ion trap mass spectrometry
- Spectroscopy: transformational areas of optical spectroscopy for the characterization of radioactive and environmental media
Willingness and ability to obtain a security clearance is required. Candidates with postdoctoral experience are preferred. Experience in the national laboratories is desired. Faculty Position in Inorganic Chemistry
WSU invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in inorganic chemistry at the Assistant Professor Level at our Main Campus in Pullman WA.
The successful applicant will be expected to run a nationally and internationally recognized research program, teach at graduate and undergraduate levels and perform service duties for the department and for WSU. The anticipated start date is August 15th, 2013. Required qualifications include: a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, evidence of potential for establishing and maintaining an outstanding academic research program in inorganic chemistry at WSU, ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in chemistry (including service courses), and excellent spoken and written communication skills. Preference will be given to individuals whose research interests complement existing faculty research in one or more of the three designated departmental focus areas: Energy and the Environment, Chemical Biology, or Materials Chemistry, and to individuals with demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse environment. Candidates with postdoctoral experience or equivalent are preferred.
